Background Research

In order to ensure the success of the charrette the design team need thorough, relevant and detailed background research to inform their decisions. The information where possible will be communicated visually and in a way that is accessible to all affected parties.

A specialist consultant and the Charrette planning team are working to collate this information. Local students will also be involved in the process.

The research includes the following:

  • A planning history audit of all sites within the charrette area and identification of significant surrounding planning decisions.
  • A Planning Policy overview of the Creekside Area in both Boroughs and an analysis of synergies and areas of potential conflict between existing and emerging planning policies.
  • Identification of any community or cultural strategies/community plans that could provide linkages and opportunities through the Charrette process.
  • An overview of the Environmental and Flood Risk issues arising from the adopted policy designations and other strategic designations such as, but not exclusively, protected wharfs, ecological areas, air quality and noise issues.
  • An overview of the relative accessibility of different sites within the Charrette boundary together with linkages to the wider transportation context and emerging planned and aspirational public transport infrastructure.
  • An overview of the likely key stakeholders and interest groups that should be engaged in the Charrette process.
  • Land ownership analysis. Percentages of current land use, land value and indicative prices for typical uses (A1, B1 etc.)
  • An overview of current area demographics and faith communities.
