Joan Ruddock MP to launch Creekside Charrette document
Joan Ruddock MP for Deptford is to launch the Deptford Creekside Charrette report on 25 February at Laban in Deptford. Heidi Alexander, Deputy Mayor of Lewisham and Peter Bishop, Director of Design for London will join Joan in launching the report, which is the result of a week-long event held in July last year.
The Deptford Creekside Charrette was commissioned by Creative Process, a regeneration agency working in London. The Charrette brought together stakeholders from the area, to discuss formulating a coherent plan for the future of Creekside, Deptford, SE8. Planners, developers, landowners, residents, businesses and other interested parties contributed to the process through a series of public and one to one meetings.
A selected Design Team of architects and specialists guided the process and worked to deliver feasible solutions to the ideas that were generated during the Charrette.
Creekside in Deptford is a unique and complex area, with 53 separate freeholds running along the Creek. As one of the last central largely undeveloped corridors in the Thames Gateway, there is great pressure for development. The area has an exceptionally diverse and rich culture with an established and growing creative economy. It has potential to become a centre for cultural and creative production, new business incubation and a visitor destination. However a different approach is needed to enable the existing cultures and economic activity to grow and thrive alongside any new development.
The report lays out the proposals from the Charrette and explains the process which was used to achieve these results.
